Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of NZ Supporting Families Affected by Prader-Willi Syndrome

Home

The NZ PWS association was formed in 1989 to be a support group for those who are affected by Prader-Willi Syndrome and their families and friends. The association provides many resources such as information booklets, videos and quarterly newsletters. Advocacy services are also offered to smooth the process of starting a new kindergarten, school or job.

Prader Willi Syndrome is often recognised by the ”floppy” appearance of a baby due to low muscle tone and a general failure to thrive. It is caused by a genetic abnormality and affects around one in every twenty five thousand people. In later life those affected are particularly prone to excessive weight gain.
